The recent snowstorms have left hydrants in town buried and town departments are currently maxed out plowing and removing snow. The Rowley Fire Department is concerned that, because of the large snow banks, hydrants are difficult to access and precious time would be lost in the event of a fire.
If you have a hydrant near your home, and have an able bodied shoveler in the home, please do a good deed and clear that hydrant. Some points to remember:
Do not overexert
Do not shovel snow into the plowed streets. Some hydrants have a red extension pole attached making it easier to locate. So before you go sledding or shopping be sure your neighborhood is safe and locate the hydrant and get that able bodied shoveler out to clear the snow.
If you accomplish all this, then by your good deed, you have become a member of the “Angels Among Us “ club.
