HYDRANT FLUSHING NOTICE

In connection with the NEW WATER TREATMENT PLANT start-up Rowley Water Department will be flushing fire hydrants to clear out the entire system. In an effort to minimize delays, flushing in high traffic areas will be done at night. The main distribution Trunk Mains will be flushed first. Rt 133 from Bradford Tavern to the Georgetown Line, will take place 10PM to 4AM Tuesday April 22nd. Route 1 from the Ipswich line through Fox Meadow, will take place at night from 10PM – 4AM Wednesday April 23rd. Flushing of Haverhill Street from the Bradford Tavern to Rte 1A AND 1A from Ipswich to the Newbury Line, will take place 10PM to 4AM Thursday April 24th . Flushing will be conducted throughout April and May. Most of the flushing will take place 7:00am – 3:00pm, Monday-Friday. Customers may experience some discoloration in the water, although measures have been taken to minimize the interruption. Please plan accordingly, as we apologize for any inconvenience.

Thank you for your patience during this time.

The following suggestions will help avoid problems with discolored water:

  1. Customers with systems sensitive to PRESSURE such as Fire Sprinklers may experience temporary fluctuations that may cause an alarm condition.
  2. Check for discolored water before doing laundry.
  3. If you have discolored water, wait 15 minutes and run the cold faucets. This will allow time for the discolored water in the main to pass your house.
  4. Avoid using bleach in laundry, as this worsens the staining.
  5. In the event clothes are stained, do not dry stained clothing.
